Alwil Software decided to submit from now on its free product for testing instead its commercial version (because it would not score differently anyway).
Hi,
I'm curious about what you said there (I mean the part that I highlighted in bold). Is that really so?
I know that the detection rate of the free and commercial versions of Avast should be the same, at least in malware detection tests. But in this particular case, when the AVs are being tested against websites containing malicious scripts/exploits/files, then I think that the commercial version of Avast should have a better detection rate than the free one. Or at least that is what Alwil would like us to believe, according to their website:
Avast Free and Pro Comparison. In the comparative chart, it clearly mentions "Safer Web surfing" as one of the advantages of the commercial version of Avast over the free one.
Also, in a more thorough comparison that they published
here , it says the the commercial version has a "Script blocker" while the free one does not. Wouldn't that influence the detection of the malicious scripts in the tests?
